Taking on Standby

Flight benefits? Yes, please.
So I've got a little insider tip for you: if you have a friend who works for the airline, woo them. This can come in many forms, though not financially, since that is illegal. In August, 2013, I found a friend who listed me as their "buddy" with United, and I did about $12,000 worth of travel (per leg, mind you) in the first three months. Now I have wooed another, and have until December 2014 to travel the "friendly skies" on United, paying merely the tax on a fraction of the cost.
I'm headed to grad school in the fall (location TBD), so I want to cherish these last free months by traveling as much as my body and bank account can handle it. I've written various blogs about places I've traveled to, but I tend to lose steam a couple of weeks in. I can't guarantee that won't happen here, but I cherish the few paragraphs I have written as journal entries that can be shared with others. In fact, my blog about Thailand (I only wrote about the north, as I got a little sidetracked at the parties in the south and didn't write any further) has been used to help guide friends that were headed to the land of smiles, and I hope that this new venture will add to my vault of shareable knowledge. I am a firm believer that travel is the catalyst for people finding growth outside of their comfort zone, and aim to help anyone discover the joy that accompanies the purchase of a plane ticket.
So read on if you like, and feel free to ask questions!
Best,
Gabrielle
